This year, the Rotary Club of Regina South is celebrating 26 years of service and fellowship. The membership is a diverse group of men and women who represent a variety of different occupations and professions.
The Rotary Club of Regina South puts the Rotary motto “service above self” into action with the support of local community programs and international service projects.
The Annual Dinner and Silent Auctions is the Club’s largest fundraising event. The major beneficiary is Regina Palliative Care Inc. which has received $56,000 from this event over the past five years. The club also supports other worthy organizations in Regina including: the Salvation Army Waterston Centre, which provides shelter for homeless men; Regina Food for Learning to help sponsor a school lunch and snack program; the Regina Women Immigrant Centre to support the operation of a literacy program for newcomers; and a literacy program at Mother Teresa Middle School.
Rotary is also known around the world for its support of international service projects. This year, the Rotary Club of Regina South and the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview will be working together to help the community of Espana in Guatemala to build a new primary school. The Ripple Effect Scholarship Fund is a club project that works in partnership with a Rotary Club in Guatemala to award scholarships that enable children to stay in school beyond Grade 6.
The Regina South Rotary Club also supports the Rotary International campaign to end polio around the world and ShelterBox, which provides emergency shelter for people affected by natural disasters around the world.
The Rotary Club of Regina South meets every Friday at noon at the Executive Royal Hotel Regina (formerly the West Harvest Inn), located at 4025 Albert Street in Regina. Visitors are welcome. For more information, please visit www.reginasouthrotary.org.
